Area 1

Phou Khoun at the junction on Road 13 to the Plain of jars This area is now quiet after some uprises from the local Hmong villages. The authorities "eliminated" the financial source of trouble and the area is considered save. The government wants to open one cave for tourists and provided money to build a small road. I saw about 30 very promising pictures of the cave. Again nobody knows about the length. The area is close to the Kasi hills and Vang Vieng and reached by a 4 hour bus ride from Luang Prabang.

Area 2

Vieng Phouka, 75 km south of Luang Nam Tha

The area is opened up by the EU Microprojects for local tourism. There are about eight caves and nobody knows about the length.
